Philanthropy
One of our mottos is : "Sigma serves children" Since 1954, Tri Sigma has funded over $2,000,000 in play therapy/child life programs. Tri Sigma raises all this money by the various philanthropic events hosted each year. For example, Alpha Chi's Ultimate Frisbee Tournament and the Jan Jones Wilson Memorial 5k walk/run.
What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy is... treatment where children can expression and communication themselves with play. The therapist will use play to help the patient relieve stress, understand illness, communicate fears, and undergo treatment. Play therapy can range from helping a child learn to swallow medicine to helping the individual learn to live with his or her illness/prognosis.

The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation centers its philanthropic efforts around the theme "Sigma Serves Children." It was established in 1951 after the death of the son of the Sorority's National President, Mary Hastings Holloway Page. Initially the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation supported Polio research projects, including the Salk Vaccine Trials.
In 1970 Tri Sigma received the Distinguished Service Award which recognizes the significant achievement and meritorious service in medicine.
Recently, the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation's mission has become to distribute funds for charitable, philanthropic, educational, and other benevolent purposes, including, but not limited to the establishment of programs:
-To promote educational and leadership skills of women to meet the demands of contemporary society
- To provide scholarships and grants to worthy students
- To foster community service by the membership with special emphasis on support of therapy programs for children

ULTIMATE FRISBEE TOURNAMENT (Fall Semester)
JAN WILSON MEMORIAL 5K RUN/WALK (Spring Semester)
ULTIMATE FRISBEE TOURNAMENT
Ultimate Frisbee Tournament is our philanthropy event for the fall semester. Many campus organizations participate (including Greek organizations, residential colleges, and independent teams). This year's annual tournament raised over $1000 for the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation!
JAN WILSON MEMORIAL 5K RUN/WALK
In the Spring semester, we host a 5K walk/run through Murray State campus. Sisters, Students and members of the community participate annually for the event. Originally called "Run for Robbie" this event was renamed in 2006 in memory of our beloved advisor Mrs. Jan. As our advisor, she did amazing things for our chapter. Mrs. Jan devoted her heart and time to Sigma. Jan Wilson Memorial 5K walk/run is our way of remembering her and giving back.
Character Counts
Character Counts involves the sisters going into the school systems and having a program for the students. The program the sisters teach will include lessons on manners, respect, morals, academics and many more.
Sisters are extremely excited to be getting involved with this organization. Not only does this organization's mission reflects Tri Sigma's core values. But also, the sisters are able to actively participate in making a difference in children's lives. If you would like to know more, make sure to ask a sister!
